Pura Vida was established in 2002 by the owner Bernardo Pacheco. He graduated in 2002 having studied Finance in the countries capital San Jose. After graduating he came home for a short break before facing the world. Though whilst back in his home town of Monteverde, the small isolated community seemed to offer its own ideas.

His father owned a veterinary service in the centre of town, and below this establishment there was a small basement like space, which to this day is the Internet Café Pura Vida. A few years ago it was clear that the tourist boom was hitting Costa Rica, and especially the region of Monteverde. Bernardo simply realized this sooner than most and took advantage of services people would certainly want. As well as thinking about a small business, this idea gave him the option of continuing with his music. As an avid musician pursuing a job in the capital, it would make it very difficult to not only play gigs regularly, but also to practice. The idea was perfect, and do not be surprised to hear him playing into late hours of the evening.
